164766 2003-08-03 12:22:00 You ever downloaded 1.8 odd gig's of data that cannot be corrupted at all on a 6K dial-up?

Let me tell you that it was hard enough downloading JAMD which is a 1CD base of RH 9 on my dial-up modem.. let alone 3x that!

I sell linux CD's for $15 for a distro... much easier..!

164767 2003-08-04 03:43:00 Cold fusion ... next time you see "boot: ", try "linux ram=1024". (or whatever linux name you use ). If that works, you can make the change in the lilo.conf or the grub conf file. (Remmeber to run /sbin/lilo after making any change -- or the grub executable). I thought modern releases had fixed the invisible ram problem ... though it used to be 64MB it stopped at. Perhaps the fix didn't allow enough bits. 1 GB would be 30 bits ... Graham L (2)
164768 2003-08-04 03:59:00 Best Linux I know is Mandrake 9.1, easy install although watch out when installing on NTFS it can muck up the hard drive.
FAT 32 is fine.
Try www.linuxshop.co.nz for cds.
Good value for money as you get office programmes and all on the goodies with this OS.

164770 2003-08-04 06:21:00 I have this angle for distros.

Redhat = Corporate Linux Edition
SuSE = Technical Linux Edition (Especially the Pro version)
Mandrake = New User

However you may want Yoper (http://www.yoper.com) and support kiwi-made products

164771 2003-08-04 06:27:00 *Hope you dont mind if I add to it..*

JAMD is based on RedHat 9, and is more aimed at the Home-User market, One-CD as opposed to MDK/RH's 3!

Lycoris Desktop/LX (New version released recently) is for Home-User's who like the Doze look/feel of things :-)

164773 2003-08-04 06:42:00 Chill, I still owe you for that cd although I still ahven't solved the nForce + Grub, error 28 issue on boot. Wonder if GL's onto something further up the thread.

164774 2003-08-04 07:20:00 Ahh.. Yes, you do :-)

Email me on Chilling_Silence*at*orcon*net*nz

I saw some info on nforce a wee way back.. otherwise you could try using LILO?
Chilling_Silently (228)
164775 2003-08-04 07:51:00 Done. As you will see I am booting with lillo now, no go.

Cheers Murray P

PS. AZREAL, thanks for the use of your post. Give Linux a run, as per previous posts, try a proven version of a popular distro, not the latest beta. It may not be to your liking but, from what I hear, most who try and stick with it for a while to get an understanding of the differences/functionality give it high praise.
