| 165298 | 2003-08-04 10:48:00 | After reading all the positive comments about Eudora, I downloaded and installed Version 5.2.1 - Sponsored Mode. It has been working well so far and I am pleased with it. However there is one problem which I have not been able to overcome. After I click on the desktop icon to open Udora, I need to click on the toolbar Check Mail icon, to get the program to connect to my ISP, check my mail, then disconnect. Even though I have checked the appropriate boxes in the Tools/Options/Internet Dialup dialogue, the program does not Connect/Check/Disconnect automatically as I think it probably should. Can anyone with Eudora experiece suggest a solution to my problem please. Thanks |

| 165300 | 2003-08-04 23:26:00 | Jim As I said in my original post, I have checked all the boxes in Tools/Options/Internet Dialup except 'only do automatic mail checks when .....' and it will not do an automatic connect etc. Any other options I should look at? |

| 165301 | 2003-08-04 23:42:00 | I use Eudora, on ADSL. It connects on program start, and also did when I was on dial-up. You do need to have a period set under Tools - Options - Checking Mail, in the "Check for mail every ..." box or it will never check. On ADSL I check every minute, but on dial-up it was every 30 minutes. |

| 165304 | 2003-08-05 02:09:00 | I use Eudora on ADSL, but due to the volume of Spam, about which Clear.net does nothing regarding filtering, I have had to resort to using a mailwasher program to view the mail on their server then delete 90% of it due to being Spam. The prospect of Eudora downloading mail automatically, and with HTML viewing enabled, makes me shudder. |

| 165305 | 2003-08-05 02:45:00 | Why mention Clear as ISP's don't filter spam normally as this could be looked on as a form of censorship of your private mail. If you want to opt in to any spam control that might be offered than that is up to each individul. It is not the role of an ISP to decide what you should receive in your email and spam to one person may be useful or requested information to another. It is up to every individual to control their own email and I for one would not find it acceptable for an ISP to interfere and decide by some general guide lines what is allowed to be delivered to me. |

But spam is choking the internet, and the majority of content is of a very similar nature. If an ISP does nothing about blocking or bouncing this material it will continue to build up and stuff us all. I have not solicited this material, it has been sent after my address has either been guessed by a address generating program, or been leeched by a bot and supplied or sold to third parties to expand their targets. I don't consider it to be censorship if it stops this unsolicited crap from arriving in my mailbox. If I wanted to buy any of the type of goods offered by thes morons, I would do a Google search and find it myself. |
