165243 2003-08-04 08:25:00 I'm building a new pc and i was wondering what sort of a motherboard i should get.
It needs to support:
must fit into a Thermaltake Xaser III case
all CPUs above Athlon XP 2800+
DDR 400 ram.
Serial ATA
AGP 8x
USB 2.0

165245 2003-08-04 10:13:00 Any ATX motherboard will fit into the Thermaltake case.

I've got an Asus A7V600 MB in mine, with all the extra's on it - but am currently having difficulty getting Ram to run well on it.

Epox MBs are very good - so you could try one of those. I'd spend my money getting a fast hard or two (in RAID 0)...

165246 2003-08-05 02:02:00 I have had good experiences with Socket A Asus mobo's with the Via chipset. I currently have an A8V333-X, but any of the newer 400 or above chipsets should do the trick, just be careful going too new a chipset as it will not have the tried and tested reliability of an older one.

There is a reason why it is called cutting edge technology - you often get cut.

165247 2003-08-05 02:51:00 Check out the Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL. Based on the nForce 2 Ultra 400 chipset.

Got all the goodies you want.

I'm putting my money where my mouth is too. I ordered one yesterday and picking it up tomorrow.

$236.25 GST Included.

I would also recommend anything Asus - I'm not running AMD, but have an Asus board, and I probably wouldn't look at much else anymore .

165250 2003-08-05 23:41:00 nForce chipset, preferably coupled with an Asus board IMO.

165251 2003-08-06 07:35:00 Soltek, I know that brand is better with Athlon CPUs attaboy999 (3517)
165252 2003-08-08 11:57:00 Well I have my new Soltek running now and I'm quite happy with it. Now to pick up a Serial ATA drive. :-) Elephant (599)
