165232 2003-08-04 07:12:00 Can someone please set the record straight on Messenger type Instant communication programs. Net Passport is another headache.

Please, what do you need to communicate with each of the above, and is a Passport required.

Id like the minimum to get up & running with an Instant Messenger type service.

For instance, I dont have a Home hotmail account, but log in with MSN Messenger under my Xtra login. MSN Messenger starts automatically and signs me in, thats fine. If I login foom another PC with MSN Messenger, do I use my Xtra ID as a logon ?

Please, someone get a FAQ on this subject.

Thanks,...... John W

165233 2003-08-04 07:21:00 Xtra and MSN have sorta gone hand in hand for .NET among other things, hence xtramsn.co.nz

a .NET Passport is more than just hotmail/xtra/msn etc.
Ive signed up my orcon email account to be a .NET Passport at passport.com!

All hotmail accounts are .NET Passports by default.

You can use your Xtra account from ANY PC :-)

MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger are pretty similar, only Windows Messenger comes with WinXP and is more cut-down :-)

Hope this helps

Cheers

165234 2003-08-04 07:39:00 Hi John

for your information and make you more understanding on this thing...

MSN = It is a portal the can display any information that normal people like to do on the news, getting news, entertainment, sports result that sort of stuff

Net Passport is a system that allow you to store email address, your credit card number for internet purchase...

Yes, Microsoft allow other people doesn't have hotmail and be registered to allow to use this system.....

Yes, once you have registered, ur xtra email address can be used around the world...

but one thing is that, if u use xtra email account, in msn (instant messaging program by microsoft), you are not allow to check email, u will then open those mail program on ur computer. However if you have a hotmail address, xyz @hotmail.com you can use that messenger program to tell u whether you have email or not...

hope this help

I think that bjocque is talking about is either (he/she has Win XP & getting pop up throw there) or the “MSN today “pop up,
& I have MSN Messenger 5.0 I also never had a pop up part from the “MSN today” one.

I posted a recent thread asking the same question. I followed the instructions in the thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz), and have successfully removed it.
