2003-08-04 05:39:00 | Hi there, I have just done 2 assignments in M/S Word, and saved them to my documents and floppy...now when I look they are coming back in the really suckful "Wordpad" instead. I only ever use Word, didn't even know I had the wordpad...what Have I done? Can I revert it back? Thank you.... | amazon (3976) | |

Or, right-click on the files in Windows Explorer and select Open With, then select Word. You need to update you file associations. In Windows Explorer, Select Tools - Folder Options - File Types - select DOC and change the association to Word. |

2003-08-04 06:13:00 | Then use the "New" button. Make a DOC extension, assign Word to it. This is assuming you are letting Word use its standard .doc extension for naming (i.e. the default method)

2003-08-04 09:06:00 | Open up Explorer (Not IE) and go to Tools/Folder Options/View and uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types. Everyone should do this as it is one way of getting viruses when you can't see the real extension Then go to where you saved your documents and Shift/Right Click on one of the .doc files and choose Word to open it and make sure the check box to always open using the program is checked. | mikebartnz (21) | |
2003-08-04 10:10:00 | Hi there, I tried the rightclick/shift option, but in all the different options it gives to open it, word isn't in there. Also, I tried using the "new "button as discussed in an above thread, but it is still saving everything as wordpad...I also unchecked the box mentioned above, but still no cigar....any other options? Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate your time.Cheers... | amazon (3976) | |
2003-08-04 10:46:00 | Have you checked the following? (I use Word 97 and Windows 98) Open Word then click on Tools / Options / Save Tab. Near the bottom there is a line that says: 'Save Word files as:' and a box beside it for your entry of choice. It should show: 'Word Document (*.doc)'. If not, scroll down until you find it, highlight it and OK your way out. Cheers.

2003-08-04 11:08:00 | Sorry it didn't help. I am a very basic user so can't help further. If your post doesn't get more replies and ends up way down the page, I suppose you are aware that you can reply to your own post and just type the word BUMP. (Which means 'Bring up my post'). That will put your posting at the top of the page again. Best of luck, and don't give up, there are a lot of willing experts on PF1 :).
