| 165102 | 2003-08-04 22:45:00 | Have you detected the modem and run a modem diagnostic? The modem will throw you error messages if it has a problem and these can be used to narrow the field down. For the Wuloader error go here (support.microsoft.com) What antivirus are you running, I presume you have the latest updates and have done the registry fix for PWS.Hooker. You will also need to run a spyware remover like Spybot or Adaware (run both) and check for odd files in the dowloaded programs folder, IE properties > General tab > Settings > View Objects, check the properties/dependencies of all the files you find in there, delete anything suspect. Hooker is dropped by a virus/worm and will attempt to latch onto/change your connection settings, IP numbers, etc. Reinstalling over the top probably wont do anything as the beasty will be well embedded in you system files. You should not have to reformat and reinstall. Cheers Murray P |

| 165103 | 2003-08-10 13:06:00 | Thankyou to anyone who responded, I took the computer to Inhouse Computers who said I needed a clean install. So I did a clean reinstall, and it worked and now I am happy again. The problem must have been due to virus damage. Took me all day to arrange and back up all our data. Then burn the data to 7 cd's. But on the lighter side, it gave me a good chance to partition the hard drive, which I've always thought was a good idea. But I am only just up and running, and haven't had a chance to install Zonealarm so I better go. Thanks, Justin |
