166105 2003-08-07 12:13:00 When I installed my cd-rw, I put it as slave and my cd-rom as master on the secondary ide cable . to do this i shifted my atapi iomega zip drive to the slave position on my primary . after the change i had problems burning cds and playing video files off the hdd . when i checked the primary ide in device manager i found the hdd settings changed from UDMA to PIO, the same as the zip .

i checked the iomega site and learned they don't recommend using the primary ide . i've disconnected the zip and set the hdd back to udma and things are working fine .

so, what's the best way to use all these devices?

cheers

166106 2003-08-07 12:15:00 install an ata card and put the cd drives on their own ide channel :-) tweak'e (174)
166107 2003-08-07 12:21:00 thanks tweak'e

now that i think of it, my wife has a scsi zip and scsi card. maybe i should throw the card in my machine and swap zip drives since she only has one device on both the primary and secondary cables.

would that do the trick?

cheers

166108 2003-08-08 10:43:00 Hi

I have a similar setup with HDD on Primary and Zip on slave, and on Secondary CDRW master, CDrom slave

This seems to work fine
