165996 2008-11-26 19:11:00 Thanks Rod Ger, but Bill had nothing new to offer there, except a credible explanation for the long pauses that happen some times during defrag.

It seems that deletion of large numbers of redundant files (including temporary Internet file accumulations) prior to defrag will cause the program to slow while it deals with this newly vacated space.

Since I always clean my HDDs before imaging for backups, and then follow the clean with a defrag so that the image is as pristine as I can make it, it's no wonder I see that apparent hang effect on a regular basis!
