166190 2003-08-08 09:38:00 Hi,

I want to get more ram for my computer (hp 8802), which supports sdram but I'm not sure which brand and type to get.

Also I had a look at some stores and it says sdram pc133 16x chips (double side). Wht does the 16x mean?? There is either 8x or 16x, whts the difference, should I and could I fit the 16x onto my computer??

I have not changed any memory on my computer yet (jus incase there is any probelms with running two different types of ram)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

166191 2003-08-08 10:18:00 Hi, I would remove the RAM presently in the computer(take antistatic precautions), take it to the place you want to purchase the new RAM from and tell them you want the same or compatible RAM. Rod ger (316)
166192 2003-08-09 08:28:00 You can pick up 256MB RAM from places like QMB.co.nz for aroun $60.
Your best bet would be to use only the new RAM chip firstly and make sure it all works.

If you're sure the new RAM is fine (eg. you can boot your system etc.) then you can try adding your old RAM chip too, to give a lil extra boost :-)

Or... You could sell it?

166193 2003-08-09 12:12:00 otherwise complain like crazy and get compatble RAM for a discount( because you relied on their expertise and asked them to do the compatible thing)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rod ger (316)
166194 2003-08-09 12:15:00 Ok, will do, but I still haven't found out wht the 16x mean....

166195 2003-08-09 12:19:00 16x = 16 chips, 8 per side, double sided
8x = 8 chips, 8 on one sie, single sided

Thats a guess taken from your own descriptions ....
