2003-08-11 13:47:00 | Just was curious: When playing ONLY and MP3, what is your CPU usage at. No Visualisations... No other apps running if possible, Im just wanting people to post their: 1. CPU speed/type 2. The application used to play MP3's 3. MP3 Bitrate (eg. 192kbps, 128kbps) 4. Your OS 5. CPU Usage while playing the MP3 (Just a 30 second average perhaps?) Im just rather curious, due to playing it on the family's Celeron 933Mhz, WinXP Pro, 192kbps MP3's, it sits with only WinAmp 2.91 going on about 20% Close WinAmp and it drops down rather low to almost nothing. Running on my PC however, and its totally different! I know there's a ton of factors to consider, but I'm just interested in what other people experience for CPU Usage? Cheers Chill.

2003-08-11 15:25:00 | Would love to oblige, but which items should I be looking at in System Monitor - there seems to be hundreds (XP pro) | Greg S (201) | |
2003-08-11 22:14:00 | 1. AMD Duron 650 - 256MB RAM - Onboard video and sound 2. Winamp 2.80 3. 192kbs 4. Win2k SP4 5. 5% (most of the time sat on 0% but every now and then would go to 4,5 or 6%) This is with Mcafee Antivirus V7 and Pop-up Stopper still running in the systray.

2003-08-11 22:57:00 | 1. Athlon 1. 1Ghz, 384sd-ram, integrated audio, 2. Winamp 2.9! 3. 192kbps, 128kbps 4. Xp Pro! 5. 192kbps: 0-2% cpu use (usually 0% after the first 5secs) 128kbps: 0-4% cpu use (usually 0 but sometimes it jumps to 2 n 4) Winamp uses about 3,596K memory and Peak Memory is 7288K. Miles better than stupid media player 7, which uses 9,000 - 10,000K memory constantly changing (13,876K peak), and 18megs of virtual memory, 3-10 cpu. What a dog!

2003-08-12 00:00:00 | My AMD Athlon XP 1700+ with 512MB DDR RAM will sit happily on 2% and not go over it. The only time it gets to around 4% is when it's changing song.. Buffering up I believe. Working it out from a different perspective, its using around 30Mhz a second of my CPU... That seems a rather "interesting" way of putting it I suppose. If I run upstairs and sit down on the family's XP Pro PC, its another story altogether? Im using XMMS 1.2.7 Does anybody want to offer reasons for the difference here? Soundcard? Drivers? Optimisation for the system architecture?

2003-08-12 03:13:00 | P400, win98, winamp 2.something: 8-12% depending on quality. Athlon 2100, win98, winamp 3, onboard sound: 8-10%. Any measurements in linux will be a bit inaccurate because of the way it uses the cpu. I forget why exactly.

2003-08-12 03:25:00 | 1. Athlon XP 2600+ @2.09Ghz 2. Windows Media Player 9 Series 3. bitrates from 328Kbps - 380kbps 4. WinXP Pro 5. Usage between 2-4% (app minimised) raises to 34% if brought up but only because I have a fancy visualisation! Hope that's useful.

Approximately nothing, around 11% on change of file and up to 50% when fast forwarding. This using onboard sound on a GA-7VRXP. |
