166816 2003-08-11 10:34:00 Hey:

I just found that I have Trojan Horse Virus on my computer which has infected the system32.exe file. I have Winxp Pro.

Does anyone know how to delete it or fix it? I don;t want to reinstall Windows again.

Norton Antivirus won't do the job, which i think is pretty pathetic for a 2003 version.

I know it might be impossible, still I don't want to just reinstall Windows yet.

Thanks

PS: What this does on my computer is that it opens the Dial-Up connection automatically every few second and dials itself, so i have to click cancel every few seconds. This also prevents me from doing anything else.

166817 2003-08-11 10:47:00 What Trojan is it?
Theres hundreds, so we cant guess, and if we cant even guess we cant help....

A Trojan is descriptive of a type of program (It masquerades as another application or is contained in another application to get into your PC) and not the name of a Virus.

Have you thought that the Trojan Horse Virus might of disabled it or make it not work correctly???? Do you even have Norton Antivirus up to date????

I think there is a system32.exe file ?:| ( I do not have XP so I am not too sure)

have a look throw this list of possible Trojan Horse Virus (search.symantec.com) which it might be.

Good luck :)

166823 2003-08-11 11:19:00 I believe there's a system32 folder, but no system32.exe or system32.dll, well not on my XP Pro. So I think it's a common window name being disguised. Quite clever actually.

I don't see what system32.exe will run as I know most processes that run under Windwos. So I'm assuming it is the virus. I am just trying to think how the person who posted knows it's a trojan when NAV2003 didn't work. Any clues to that?

166824 2003-08-11 11:29:00 Try pcpitstop online (www.pcpitstop.com) virus scanner if you don't trust Norton, but remember your virus checker, in fact all virus checkers are not fail safe and are only as good as your last update. beama (111)

Then do a bit of a google for info on it, try:
Virusname_here removal tool
See what that brings up!
