I'm sure the other English people on here will agree, I have yet to find any roads in NZ as narrow as that. Still looking! 60 mph the speedlimit (that just under the hundy for those that dont know!) Great fun and to imagine still alive after driving those roads what a shocker. As for the earlier remark from someone else of a global side of the road to drive on because tourists get confused???? Really? UK/Ireland drives on the same side as NZ and the rest of Europe does not so is it that difficult? Cant be European Licences cover you what ever side of the road you were taught. Problem is New ZEaland is the inability to stay on the correct side of the road cutting into corners and overtaking in the wrong places. But how many head ons have there been compared to junction incidents or single vehicle leaving the road? Not many. |

Or Skippers Canyon!:eek: You never driven in the UK either ;) nearest comparison I could find was the Otago Peninsula, close but no cigars |

| 1320428 | 2012-12-29 06:13:00 | I can understand that especially if one vehicle is a heavy vehicle. It is much safer for a car to back up than a heavy truck (usually). There was a daft rule in the UK regarding Buses! Buses with passengers on board must not reverse, so when you have two buses with passengers on board on a narrow Country Road you are a bit buggered :-lol |

| 1320429 | 2012-12-29 06:17:00 | Yes, those narrow country lanes in England always amaze me when I see them on tv. I wonder how many accidents there are on them. You must have to drive really slow on them in case a car or truck was coming the other way round a corner! Surprisingly not many! Fast reactions and advanced thinking, the corners are not so blind or tight that you have not got enough warning! Local knowledge goes a long way as well. As I said speedlimit 60mph but to be honest you dont try to go faster than the limit or get as close to it. Driving with a Miles Per hour speedo numbers not so important. |

| 1320431 | 2012-12-31 05:53:00 | How can you say that we have bad roads! The New Zealand Public and Road user has been paying for them for almost a century now, they should be perfect by now! Also to stop accidents I believe that all comprehensive insurance should be removed and only third party insurance put in its stead, that way people who cause accidents don't have their cars repaired, but those whose cars are damaged by others who are found to be at fault, are repaired/replaced . Just imagine how careful drivers will be if they may have pay for a new car, instead of their insurance company . :waughh: |

Personally I think it better for Northbound and Southbound traffic to use opposite sides . Panel beaters may disagree . |
