167443 2003-08-13 06:59:00 Hi

Just wondering about the state of v.92 in NZ, is it going to happen? I have been told that one isp, World-net supports it, does anyone know any other isps that support it? I have seen quite a few modems that support it. Also does anyone know what the "v.92 lite" standard is.

Thanks

167444 2003-08-13 07:04:00 lol, i can't see it happening. why would telecom want you to be able answer your phone while on line. its all about the $$$$$$$. =) NoDDyBoT (3582)
167445 2003-08-14 01:11:00 Have found another isp that supports it, Manuwatu Quik net, so has Telecom actually got the v.92 thing up and running, because if they don't why are these isps advertising that they support it. pleasehelp (882)
167446 2003-08-14 02:14:00 V.92 has a load of different features, now unless Manuwatu Quik Net control the phone lines there, they don't support the V.92 call waiting feature. They may however have the dialin servers that support the V.92 standard which is also faster uploading.

I think they were testing V.92, and Telecom are planning to switch, just to increase their dialup plans I believe as well charge for the other service provided, but when they've finally reached whatever they are trying to do with broadband then we may see it being introduced. They really got to be careful with the limited amount of IPs they have, having dialup on 24/7 will degrade services and possibly have another run out of IPs.
