167164 2003-08-12 10:43:00 I have just performed a major switch of hardware between 2 Motherboard/CPUs machines -- have shifted a hard drive/DVD Rom drive/video card/sound card/decoder card from a celeron 500MHz machine into an Athlon 1700xp machine.
Upon rebooting the Athlon machine back up it seems to be recognizing the 'new' hard drive and dvd rom drive as the primary and secondary master drives and once it gets to the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" line things go awry.
It then tries to boot from Cd and when this fails comes up with "Disk Boot Failure, Insert Sytem disk and press enter".
I have confirmed that the hard drive is set as the first boot device in the BIOS so unsure what to do next?!
Is it (the motherboard/CPU just having a 'fit' from the significant change in hardware?

167166 2003-08-12 11:02:00 Why would it be the O/S?
Drive inserted into the Athlon machine is a working drive from the older Celeron machine so not sure if that would be the prob?

167167 2003-08-12 11:07:00 It's trying to load up all the drivers etc.. for the old motherboard and CPU. My vote is with the OS software.
Sorry if I missed, but what OS are we talking about?

167168 2003-08-12 11:10:00 O/S IS WIN XP Home. Mohammad Al-Sahaf (4008)
167169 2003-08-12 11:11:00 with some pc's they run slightly different bios settings so it runs the hardrive slightly differently. also a lot of OS's do not like motherboard changes, if your lucky it will boot or you can make it boot into safe mode but if your unlucky it can fail to boot or courpt all the data on the drive (as i found out the hard way :( ) tweak'e (174)
167170 2003-08-12 11:13:00 with XP boot up with cd and repair...it should get it to work but full reinstall is better. tweak'e (174)
167171 2003-08-12 11:17:00 I'm beginning to wonder if I'm about to "find out the hard way" too!
Can't get it to boot off CD Rom either!
Will try booting into safe mode and see what that does!

167172 2003-08-12 11:44:00 is the bios set to boot off the cd?

check you hardware, strip it back to basics then check your settings.
