167676 2003-08-14 06:06:00 Hi

Just wondering if anybody knew if modems can acutally work correctly with call waiting, as in do some modems actually recognise the call waiting tone and disconnect, letting your phone ring? If so do you need some sought of software to aid this? I am looking at buying an internet call waiting device, but they are quite expensive.

Thanks

167677 2003-08-14 06:12:00 Some modems will disconnect and the phone will ring with an incoming call and others will not.
It depends on how sensitive the modem is to the call waiting tone.

There is not a lot you can do if it doesn't.

167678 2003-08-14 06:16:00 Modems are not supposed to disconnect on call waiting tones, but some do. A good modem will ignore it.
Thats considered a bonus by some, and a nuisance by others.

There is a modem protocol (V92) supported by many new modems but unfortunately by few ISPs, that is supposed to allow modem connections to be "parked" while a call is taken.

There was a thread on this today, have a search for it.

Pay Telecom for the service.

It re-enables automatically the next time the phone is used, if disabled by *52.
