| 167551 | 2003-08-13 23:06:00 | I have Widows XP and have been backing up files manually via CD burner fairly regularly but feel that I may be backing up too many duplicated files. Apart from basic data files that I would select (and these appear duplicated too, under different users.) how should I go about selecting files and directories to avoid duplication during copying? Is there a basic directory that contains relevant important data and process files. I would backup all downloaded programs as a separate back up. If a file shows in more than one user directory, are there duplications of this file or is there a single directory that contains all the data/files and is accessed by the other users but shown under differing directories. You can still add other files as well. This only works so long as you don't move the files around once you have burnt them. The other thing to do is to create a backup folder strucutre in which you place all the files you want to backup into that way when you want to back up again you copy all the files into those directories again and over write the ones already there. |
