167895 2003-08-14 23:02:00 I have just installed a new hard drive 2 problems - this is a second hard drive but will be the master - to try and prevent the virus ive installed for now 98 my slave (old) hard drive is 2000 - will this difference in o/s prevent me from uplifted files from the old drive to the new?
2nd I want to put the 2000upgrade on the new drive but i need the service pack 2 to apply the patch to block the worm -on dial up im looking at about 2 days to download the 76mb service pack - can i get this from somewhere zipped or on cd. If i go to 2000 at this stage without the patch but running zone alarm firewall and nortons antivirus will i still run the risk of being infected by the worm.
I did have the two drives running as slave and master no problems cd and fg were the labels but that was when both were 2000 - now one is 98 im getting c d and f and no access to g partition
any suggestions ??
thanks

167896 2003-08-14 23:19:00 win2k service pack 4 is out, I'd apply that as it contains fixes for other vulnerabilities as well. I would also tend to go with 2k with the anti virus and firewall, block ports 135, 445 and 4444 in your firewall and you should be right.

167897 2003-08-14 23:35:00 Thanks for that - so does service pack 4 contain all prior updates ie i dont have to get the previous versions first ? - and this should resolve the two drives recognising each other ?
cheers :-)

167899 2003-08-19 11:04:00 Can anyone tell me whether SP2 or SP3 for win 2000 have been included on the PC world CD Roms. If so what date please. dejohnson (533)
