| 168446 | 2003-08-18 10:19:00 | We are a College running an exclusively NT4 network, which has proved to be robust and stable. However a couple of factors are dragging us into 2003. We have a plethora of USB devices appearing on the scene, and the teachers who have new laptops want their XP machines to function on the network too. So we installed XP on a couple of network machines to "play" with. Setting up the laptops has not been a problem if you give the user administrative rights, but it does compromise network security. However using Desktop PC's with XP has proved troublesome. Most network resources are available but the main problem is the Internet Explorer settings are not retained. The mandatory profiles are not picked up from the server, however the policy settings are. Some servers are not seen and network connections drop out after a few minutes. Seems to me this active directory thingy is the "pc" in the woodpile. Has anyone got XP workstations to logon to NT servers successfully? If so can you point me to a deployment paper or similar. regards Don McAlpine |
