168401 2003-08-18 02:26:00 As the title says I am in need of a new CDRW drive and am looking for suggestions on a good one. My main requirements are,

Must be $200 or under
Must be 32x Write 12x Rewrite 48x Read at the minimum
Possible DVD/CDRW drive
If it does not include DVD then price must be closer to $100-$150
A good quality drive that will make good backups of my protected games and cd's etc.

Preferably available in Tauranga so I can pick it up rather than having to order it over the net or phone.

So hit me back with some ideas.
Cheers

168402 2003-08-18 03:02:00 Asus 52X writer does it all. And is under $100 last time I looked too.

168404 2003-08-18 03:07:00 Thanks, DVD reading isn't necessary but would be nice. Might just look at getting a second dvd/rom drive later on. Sam H (525)
168405 2003-08-18 03:19:00 I like the Lite-On LTR-40125S It has been a really good drive and works well with CloneCD and CloneyXXX never had any problems with it at all and supports 99 minute CDR's Doesn't play DVD though and costs about $130. Lite-on is a good brand from what I have seen. Odin (227)
168406 2003-08-19 07:16:00 BUMP, any more suggestions anyone? Sam H (525)
168407 2003-08-19 09:27:00 The Asus and Lite-On drives recommended will be safe choices. Pick one of those. tommy (2826)
168408 2003-08-21 10:05:00 you could try a cyberdrive from dick smith electronics - all my drives are that brand and i have not had any problems - they also have a 52/24/52 speed model for $139 - $105 on special works with all the burning apps ive used on it, including Nero, Fuerio, CloneCD, Easy CD Creator 5 platinum etc agent_24 (4330)
168409 2003-08-21 10:10:00 Shop around though... Dick Smith prices are usually quite inflated - you could probably get the same or better from a computer shop for less.

168410 2003-08-21 10:29:00 Check out if the writer you want to buy is a 2 sheep burner - at the clone cd supported writer list. Then you'll be assured it can make good backups. You probably already know that right??

Then its just a matter of finding the cheapest one. DVD/cd-rw drives a re good value for money so go for one of them regardless. Try Paradigm PC's (www.pp.co.nz) and see if they have any there (v.good seller). Use the links up top as well for the dvd combo drives etc.
