I do not think so

& I do not think you can turn off the advert at the bottom of v6 or v5.0 :(

You just have to live with it, I am using 5.0 & I am use to the advert :)

Sorry I could not be much help

168283 2003-08-18 04:58:00 I've never used MSN so I can't be certain, but I'd be willing to bet you could configure either or both your firewall and/or Hosts file to block them. My firewall used to block all ads from Eudora Greg S (201)

I agree - I use Windows Messenger 5, and I've never seen ads :) which I put down to either the HOST file or my firewall...

or perhaps just because WM5 is beta and they haven't stuck the ads in yet :D

I am trying out the sponsored version of Eudora at the moment, and my firewall doesn't block the ads. Some of them are pretty garish, so I thought I would be sneaky and hide the large ad off the side of the screen, ... but unfortunately Big Brother was watching (sal.neoburn.net) :D

168286 2003-08-18 08:49:00 Did you have trouble uncovering the advert again Jen? I did that once by accident (truly!) and had a hell of a job getting the advert back where it belonged. :D Fire-and-Ice (3910)
168287 2003-08-18 09:17:00 It wasn't hard to uncover the ad from where I had "parked" it (off-screen, behind systray), just had to auto-hide the taskbar so that I could access it.

Gave me a good laugh though when I saw that message, but I duly docked the advert back where it belonged. :D

Hmm... I am using Norton Personal Firewall 2003.

And, before I get flammed about trying to disable ads in a sponsered version software instead of paying for the ad-free version, I am still only trialing this email client whilst on my quest for a suitable one, and you have piqued my interest enough to want to know how (theoretically) :).

First off delete the AdCache folder - usually in C:\ProgramFiles\Eudora\data\EudPriv\Ads

Then turn on the firewall's interactive/learning mode - now connect to the Internet and open Eudora - you should get an alert that Eudora is tring to connect to the adserver - simply create a rule to always block it, turn the firewall back into your usual mode, and you're done
