168497 2003-08-19 00:13:00 There was a new version of PowerToys put out not long ago that required SP1 to be installed. If you do not have SP1 and are trying to install that version that may be your problem. Fire-and-Ice (3910)
168498 2003-08-19 00:33:00 TweakXP Pro is probably better for fine tuning the bloated bits of XP kiwibeat (304)
168499 2003-08-19 18:44:00 I found it. The hard way. I re-installed XP. FOUR TIMES.
Why did XP keep finding an Intel Modem? Why does windows update still keep offering me an update for an Intel modem?
I have an AMBIENT external modem. Why did I have to do four installs before XP recognised it?
On the first three I couldn't even install it manualy. All I got was a message that an intel modem was on COM 2. And this non-existant modem would not be moved.
On the fourth install My modem was recognised and I was asked to install drivers. AMAZING.

168500 2003-08-19 22:07:00 Intel own Ambient which was formerly owned by Cirrus Logic (chip makers for modems) so XP being a newish OS is probably only recognising Intel as the chip. See this ( www.modem-help.co.uk).
