169031 2003-08-20 22:37:00 I have an ageing Motorola Mobile model International 8700.

However, written right across the L.C.D. display is “BELLSOUTH021”

Now, it has occurred to me that this bit of advertising may well have been keyed in as we all know Vodaphone took over the N.Z. branch of Bellsouth years ago, so, it is unlikely they would be controlling this message from their network.

Point is, does anybody know how to change this message?

I thought putting my name there instead would be more useful. ?:|

169032 2003-08-21 01:09:00 Once had a friend who used to sell mobile phones, he used to change the message on an older phone I owned just to annoy me. He new a secret code to change the message, he said he couldn't tell anyone the code because it enabled access to all kinds of settings etc which invaribly meant people got into trouble requiring servicing by a professional.
Just take your phone to a vodaphone dealer, they should be able to change the message to your name quickly and without hassle, but they may try to talk you into an upgrade.

169033 2003-08-21 03:15:00 Use Google to search on motorola 8700 secret codes.

It will be there somewhere, it often involves a secret access code to gain the ability to change displays.

On most Nokia phones you only need the software and the cable or IR connection between the phone and the PC.

169035 2003-08-22 16:31:00 Thanks Guys,

I haven't found how to change the logo yet but I have found I have a range finder. I'm shattered!

"Get Distance From Base Station - Place a call, when it is answered, press [MENU] until 'Eng Field Option' is displayed, press [OK], select 'Active Cell', press [OK], press [MENU] until 'Time Adv xxx' appears, where xxx is a number. Multiply this number by 550, and the result is the distance from the RBS (Radio Base Station), in meters. "

For all you poor soles who thought mobile phones were for communication purposes! :)

169037 2003-08-22 21:49:00 I recall that the operator message or operator logo was often "hardcoded" into the phones via a secret sequence. That website should have it somewhere.
