168980 2003-08-20 10:33:00 Another thought. What would the Internet be like in New Zealand, if EVERY ISP started a foolproof Antispam & Antivirus system on their servers?. For ALL customers, free of charge. Say all together at midnight 2003/2004? Wouldn't that be to the benefit of the ISPs as much as anybody? Less space wasted on their servers comes to mind. Of course some would choose to have their own protection. Perhaps an "Opt Out" option could be available. Who would use it? Probably the Technical & Computer Literate people would opt out. But for the majority of people it would be brilliant. Yes everybody should be responsible for their own computers, but..... If you pay your rates or power bill on time you get a discount. How about the same with using your ISPs protection?
We all demand, expect Freedom to Choose. Freedom?. It doesn't come easily nor freely. Thats why we have Diplomats, Army, Navy & Airforce, to keep us safe (don't laugh!!!).
Just suppose this was built into every OS from Microsoft etc, world wide the situation would have to be better wouldn't it?? With updates to the Lists the same way as Updates now, but in Auto Mode. How would that interfere with my "Freedom" more than continual Spam & Virus attacks.
It would all come down to "Who will pay for it" tho eh?
Again... just a thought!! Poppa John :D :D
