| 168940 | 2003-08-20 06:56:00 | Hi. I need some advice on whats the best security software (Anti Virus, and Firewall) I'm asking because I received the first virus on my pc for about, well, 2-3 years. In this time - i've only had one Virus scanner - and this was Norton - and was only for a year. You guessed it - the virus I got was the Blaster one. Anyway, could someone please tell me what they think (or know) is the best AV and firewall. I'm on XP PRO, and have a home network set up (2 PC's) and use dial up. Cheers |

| 168942 | 2003-08-20 07:17:00 | I am using AVG and Kerio myself and am very happy with them. Note that my version of Kerio is the older one, 2.14 not the latest, which I had a few problems with. | Susan B (19) | ||
| 168943 | 2003-08-20 08:03:00 | Yeah Kerio is a bit better than ZA | Greg S (201) | ||

Alot of the anti-virus software comes with bundled firewalls now but I prefer to run an indipendent one, if you do likewise, you'll need to disable the bundled firewall and the one in your OS to avoid conflicts. It covers all bases, firewall, antivirus, ad blocking, cookie, activeX and Java blocking, parental control, intrusion detection, trace an attack etc. Miles more advanced than most other software, and much better protection. I've tried lots of other firewall software, mcaffee, ZA, outpost, etc. Have yet to try kerio but programs like ZA fall short of the mark. Agnitum Outpost is quite good and easy to use, but its not complex or advanced enough for my liking. |

I have Zone Alarm, Norton Antivirus and Norton Personal Firewall.. they have 2 fences to climb to get into my backyard. I wouldnt go near Pc_cillin, its crap, uses up too many resources and not uptodate quickly enough. I'd definately recommend Norton Internet Security, which covers everything, firewall, antivirus.. etc.. AVG antivirus is also very good. |
