168933 2003-08-20 06:48:00 Hi guys... am trying to setup a Raid 1 configuration with 2X 60 gig IDE hard drives. Operating system currently is Windows 2000 Server.

Is it possible to (using Ghost Corporate Edition), Ghost an image from a standalone IDE hard drive, onto the 2 others in a Raid 1 setup? Or, is it practically impossible and easier to do a clean install on the Raid setup?

We've just got a SQL database, mail server, etc on this server... the idea was to enable redundancy, where if one hard drive failed, the other one could carry on while a replacement was being organised... We're also looking at upgrading to Windows Small Business Server... is this to be done AFTER or BEFORE the Raid 1 setup??

Any thoughts or experience welcomed!!

Lo.

168935 2003-08-20 10:43:00 ghost or a transfer app should be fine. it should see the raid drive as a single drive.only problem you may have is installing the raid card drivers.

if the orginal drive is one of the 60gig drives you could simply let the raid card copy the info over (ie rebuild array).

168936 2003-08-20 10:48:00 Hmmm... I was thinking of the rebuild array option.. .but would it work?? As in would a drive that was previously on IDE Channel 0, suddenly installed with the Raid drivers and made to be one of the 2 drives in the Raid 1 config allow itself to be duplicated?

Also, I think I will need to purchase Ghost Corporate Edition, as Ghost 2003 won't install on 2000 Server, let alone Small Business Server.

168937 2003-08-20 10:56:00 nah the drive won't even know its being duplicated as its all done by the raid card hardware.

try the app supplied by the hardrive manafacture.

168938 2003-08-20 10:58:00 You mean the hardware app, not the harddrive app, right?? Lohsing (219)
168939 2003-08-20 11:18:00 most hardrive manafactures have a free program that will copy across all your data. i havn't used one in years but they should still be around. tweak'e (174)
