| 168804 | 2003-08-20 00:13:00 | Im having fun setting up the Modem here... ;-) Drivers were really simple with the help of the ScanModem tool that Geoff put on the PCW Disc a while back (Many thanks). I can get connected fine using kppp, there's no problem there, authenticates and all fine. Now, the only problem I had yesterday was that I couldnt even ping an external address. Pinging 192.168.0.2 on my LAN worked, but pinging 210.48.100.45 didnt :-( So I thought I'd try going about it a different way, and opened the Network Device Control in Redhat, and created a Dial-Up account that way. It works, but its not ideal, as there's no visual notification Im connected, its basically treated as a LAN connection right now. That's how Im surfing at the moment. Now, this morning I thought I'd try kppp again. Its dialed up as per normal, no pings worked, until I had a brainwave: Why not try pinging 210.48.100.45 and specifying that it needs to use the modem and not the NIC! So I ran: ping 210.48.100.45 -I ppp0 And low and behold I get a response! Ive done a wee bit of looking through help/man pages and I still cant figure out what my settings need to be though to make it route through ppp0 by default as opposed to eth0. Once done here... Ive gotta set up iptables to do NAT ;-) But that can come later. Thanks in advance Cheers Chill. |

| 168805 | 2003-08-20 01:15:00 | Read up on 'route' The answer is there some where on creating gateways. I think, without being on my Linux box is route add gw default -host 127.0.0.1 -net 0.0.0.0 ppp0 or just run route and see how the gw is setup there Check the Howtos for ethernet/LAN setup since that'll provide the answer of creating the gateway which just means creating a gateway, setting it as default and using the ppp0 device. Must be other ways to do it, and easier. |
