169173 2003-08-21 08:38:00 Fine Mike but I have no intention of paying for info from Consumer.

I have nothing against Consumer and think they are a good thing for those that want to read the Mag or get online.

I just use my own experience when it comes to computers.

For yonks I have been on Dialup (Xtra)... Now on Wireless (always on) connection.

I have tried personally firewalls both on Dialup and Wireless.

Kerio seems to work for me.

169174 2003-08-21 08:39:00 from what i have seen of the report its not worth the paper its written on. theres nothing on how the testing is done, what type of networks or what is valued more- ease of use or protection.

same problem with half the so called testing, everyone tests it differently, value different things differently so they always have different results.

169175 2003-08-21 09:22:00 You must remember, this is a CONSUMER test, not a technical test. I think it's flawed because it doesn't take everything into account, it only looks at Consumer mag side of things.

Mike.

169176 2003-08-21 10:46:00 Re Kerio Personal Firewall. I thought that this was a FREE firewall. I downloaded & installed it & printed off 24 pages of instructions. Also read the Licence bit, which says after 30 days they want some money???. Download was the 2.15 version, did I pick the wrong one.
Have not read the words yet but, how do you know who/what is calling if only the IP No comes up??? Poppa John

169177 2003-08-21 10:50:00 PS... Have also got XP Home firewall activated. It does not, apparently, tell you if anything untoward is happening. So how can you make a choice to block or let thro?? PJ Poppa John (284)
169178 2003-08-21 11:54:00 Another aspect, at least with Win9x, but probably not XP, is the amount of resources ZA uses, about 10%. Whereas Kerio only uses down around 1%. This in itself is another serious consideration when comparing.

Kerio requires more understanding, ZA sets itself up for average use without any other input from the user.

169179 2003-08-21 12:02:00 You can test your firewalls here http://grc.com > ShieldsUP! stu140103 (137)
169180 2003-08-21 17:10:00 It's generally recommended that you disable XP's built in firewall while running a decent 3rd party firewall Greg S (201)
169181 2003-08-21 17:14:00 Also check out Suzie Bee's links at pressf1.pcworld.co.nz Greg S (201)
169182 2003-08-22 00:31:00 It is also worth going to his LeakTest page as there is a lot of info there but I wish he would update the scoreboard. mikebartnz (21)
