169574 2003-08-23 01:04:00 Slingshot with their Xcellerator product is a great option for Jetstart customers. Not only does it give you 3x faster Web Pages, Text and graphic speeds, but it also cuts the megs sent to your PC by about 75% for this type of traffic. So you get way better than 256K performance out of the old 128k Jetstart service, and you don't break your volume limits as easily. Only costs $24.95 per month, too.
But it doesn't help with download speeds.

169575 2003-08-23 01:56:00 I posted this on the Ardvark forum as well .

You have got to be kidding
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is this a joke? Has telecom finally slipped completely over the edge of reality into madness? These plans are ridiculous, to get a 256 k connection not only do you have to fork out more money than the entire service is worth, but you have to lose your 10gig or 5gig (depending on your ISP) current cap as well .

Once again we see the power of a monopoly company with little or no conscience literally screw over it's customers once again and all because they can . After all who is there to compete with them? Very few areas outside of the Major Cities have any choice whatsoever as to their broadband connection . Telecom know this so they seem to be quite at ease at robbing blind those people in the less economic towns and cities of what little money they have .

These plans aren't going to entice anyone with any brains or even the faintest hint of intelligence to sign up for them . Come on telecom pull your head out of your collective a**eholes and get with the times . Overseas countries already start ADSL at 512 k for less than we pay for dial up .

One more thing to note, if you should happen to format your computer then you'll exceed your entire months usage and maybe even most of the next months as well just downloading the stinkin patches and updates from microsoft, not to mention your antivirus and other program updates and patches .

The headline for this announcement should read . "We here at telcome have decided to make all NZ'ers bend over and take it up the A*se with our Prehistroic planning and Market research . We are her to rip everone off as much as we can and with that thought in mind here are out new JetCrap pricing plans . SCREW YOU ALL"

169577 2003-08-23 02:56:00 Here is the comment I made to telecom via thier website, I suggest that if you also feel as outraged as I do about these plans then send a message to telecom as well but just to keep it somewhat cival or they will ignore it. I tried to keep my anger in check but I think I slipped a few times.

*****************************

I would like to know if you have lost all sence of reality and are currently living offworld in some fanasty place where you think you know what the heck is going on. Your latest Jetstream plans and prices are a joke and a kick in the teeth to all those customers who have supported Jetstart from the start as well as all those users who have no other choice but Jetstart.

I think your marketing manager needs to pull his head out of the sand and actually take a look around, no way do a majority of people (even those who don't know much about computers) use less than 500 megs per month. Is this guy for real? Just downloading all the microsoft patches, service packs and critical updates alone would put you over the 500 meg limit, not to mention updating Antivirus software. Nortons 2003 antivirus and firewall when installed new downloads about 36 megs of program updates and virus definitions. And lets not forget patches for games and other software and all this before even one e-mail has been sent, so get back in touch with reality will you.

I play games on net and I would easily exceed the cap just in playing those games, 128k speed is pathetic for gaming I get pings of 200 to 300 on New Zealand servers and I was looking forward to being able to use a 256 k connection to be able to get better pings and more playability.

How can having a 256k connection and keeping the data cap at 5 gig international cost you anymore? the same amount of data is being transfered as with the 128 k it is just going faster. Also having to pay for a damn phone I hardly use just so I can have access to adsl (which at the moment is the only broadband available in my area) is really crippling financially. I fully intend to drop both adsl and my phone line just as soon as the new broadband service is installed which will be in a few months and so will all my friends and family.

No one with any sence or even a hint of intelligence would even consider signing on to your new plans, but of course there are bound to be some people out there stupid enough to do it, but then that's what you are counting on anyway.

I think it is about time you stopped and looked around while smelling what it is you are shovelling into peoples faces, stop abusing your monopoly and catch up with the rest of the world. Many overseas ADSL starter connections are minimum 256k or even 512k and cost about the same or slightly more than our current Dialup prices.

169578 2003-08-23 03:06:00 hmmmm...i believe they will ignore all feedback no matter how its written,im sure they consider themselves pretty clever and are patting each other on the back over this.

Whatever they are trying to achieve with this has no link with customer satisfation. They work towards there own goals.

169579 2003-08-23 03:10:00 A note to Odin - if you don't use your phone much you could change to "homeline economy" which puts the line charge down from $39.30 to $25.55, and then pay 20c per local call. MalcolmDick (4453)
169580 2003-08-23 03:32:00 You could well be right metla but, I just could not help myself. I exhibited a complete lack of control and a churlish disrespect for Telecom's marketing prowess in the following email to their feedback address.

Hi

Re Telecom's new offerings for 256kb dsl, Jetstream Home 500/1000/2000. Please Telecom desist from insulting your customers and prospective customers with marketing that is either beyond belief in its ignorence or cynically applied for reasons other than providing a service.

As entry level plans to woo customers from 56kb dialup its a total non event. IMO a 128kb plan with the MB caps suggested and, at a cheaper cost, would be much more attractive to surfers and email users when the bandwidth is not so critical. I won't even go into ""The 1000MB plan will be suited to those people who download more significant amounts including occasionally listening to music, watching video clips or sending and receiving large documents and files" oh boy, where are Telecom coming from with this. Not mother earth, thats for sure.

have a cruise around some of the tech and user forums for an idea on how this latest marketing strategy is regarded. Warning R16 VL.

Regards

Murray Pxxxxxxx

They will probably trash each and every message with this subject but at least the volume will tell them something.

169581 2003-08-23 03:51:00 Telecom has done nothing new. Forget this 256k service.
128k is still there.

With the jetline package which include adsl and a phoneline:
full speed js 500MB cap = $94.95
full speed js 1000 cap = $115 (i believe).

In other words after one pays for their phoneline $40 js fullspeed is $55 *500mb*, $70 *1000mb*. So just stay put.

169582 2003-08-23 05:12:00 Yes, 128Kbps is still there, and so it should be!
Im gonna be using it with Ihug.. 10 Gigs Global, + Unlimited National!

ICONZ are who I'd go with if I wasnt already with Ihug, they're offering flat-rate across the board! Unlimited transfer no matter what!

If you max out your JSS connection, you'll get around 45 gigs downloaded in a month iirc.

256kbps means 90 gigs (roughly here), yet they're only giving us 500MB?

I think Telecom are moving backwards.. not forwards... perhaps they have too many customers and its a strategy to get rid of some of them... That MUST be it!

169583 2003-08-23 05:59:00 Chill

You mean national unlimited right? Intl is limitied by a specified GB figure rite?

Paradise does $30 for 10Gb cap, uncapped for domestic data.
I assume emails are unlimited? - the ones from a NZ ISP or ISP webmail.
