And here I was hoping to host an FTP server from home at 256Kbps.. Looks like its gonna have to be half that still :-(

500Megs though.. Hell, that's not even 1 CD of a Distro downloaded ;-)

I can do 1.2 gigs in a week on Dial-Up when the family's away and I dont worry as much about the phone being tied up, so there goes the idea of 500 megs, or even 1 gig! at 256Kbps, I could do the 1 gig in no time, without even trying!

Now Im dissappointed.
Looks like I'll still be going for Ihugs JS Starter when I do!
10 Gigs International, and unlimited national!

169555 2003-08-22 12:37:00 Does people know how much traffic you use per month on avg? If possible can u group them as national traffic and international traffic pls. I do not have ADSL.

Jetstream Home 500MB. A big wow. So what ...
Against this new plan, I mind as well go Jetstream $49.95 + ISP charges for 500MB full speed.
Or use the Jetline package and its $99.96 include phoneline JS fullspeed 500MB. Some ISP may be able to offer even more competitive offers vs Telecom, so JS fullspeed may be less than this $99.95 figure.

169556 2003-08-22 12:40:00 My correction, the Jetline package is $95.95 include phoneline and JS + the ISP costs I believe...

A big wow... jetstream home 500. How many homes use 500MB in a full month ....... ......

169557 2003-08-22 12:47:00 As far as I believe,

Auckland Regional Council
Telecom New Zealand
Television New Zealand

must all link together, in one great big pathetic family. What is wrong with its management. I think its about time for emails to Ms Theresa Gattung, as well as a few letters to editors of major newspapers. The three "great" companies are meant to be setting a standard, not be so pathetic by rates increase, price increase and 'random' firing of such valuable humans.

One only has to know the basic principles of the Law of Demand to realise that demand increase when price decrease and vice versa

What is wrong with New Zealand, maybe letting all our properties into oversea hands could be a wise idea. We can have Canadian bosses and Asian landlords... all around New Zealand... ?:|

169558 2003-08-22 12:48:00 How many homes use 50 megs a month on Windows Updates and Antivirus?

500Megs isnt much, except for those who only use emails!

Why offer 1/20th the amount at twice the speed? Where's the logic in that?

169559 2003-08-22 12:50:00 I would classify myself as a pretty light user . Just web surfing, chatting, and the odd few 100kb<x<5mb download .

Together, I use just under 2GB every full month . 500MB is really easy to use up, others will be able to tell you also . . .

Go Jetstart if ADSL if your thing . . . . ;-)

169560 2003-08-22 12:58:00 Yes Sy, I agree.. although for sum businesses who only want Emails, they might want it going down faster when it does happen.. but I noted Ihug have already put the new pricing up:
JS Home:
www.ihug.co.nz

JSS:
www.ihug.co.nz

169561 2003-08-22 13:02:00 Or just boycot there crap .

i refuse to buy into any of the plans on offer from teletheif . Especially when there jetstart 128 is hardly any increase on dial-up .

Rather hammer red hot nails into my eyes .

well . . . . maybe not red hot ones .

Sorry for OT:

<OT>

I think you might want to think about ISDN or something like that......, because most ISP Do Not allows servers.
(I have a friend who want to do the all most same as you, but he cannot find a ISP which allows servers), unless you want to risk loosing your account :(
