169425 2003-08-22 01:54:00 Hi, I am having problem adding canon a70 to my winXP. This wasn't a problem before but the other day when I try to upload my photos, XP asked to add new hardware. (apparently for some reason, it was lost). Thus I proceeded to add hardware as instructed but could not locate canon's driver. Previously when i add canon cam, it automaticaly detected the driver but this time it could not detect let alone install a driver even after i searched from the CD ROM.

First it asked for something like cndtp.dll then i found it on the CD ROM and it proceeded to install but XP said "there was an error in stalling this driver. Installation could not proceed. Your hardware may not function properly".

I have been searching in various Q&A forums and the web but could not find a solution or something similar.

Please someone help. Thanks.

169426 2003-08-22 03:57:00 Sounds like you may either have a scratch on the CD or maybe dust/dirt on the laser.

You could try searching your hard drive for that particular file. Common places to pick would be C: \ Windows \ System or System32. Then get the installation to pick the file from that folder. Note that if the file is damaged then this will get you nowhere.

Also when reinstalling hardware make sure first that any previous installations have been removed. Check in Device Manager to be sure your Canon camera does not appear (if it is appearing, right-click and remove); and that there are no devices with little red crosses.

169427 2003-08-22 06:19:00 The CD ROM appears to be in good condition since i can browse the file. No canon hardware was detected i.e. installed so it did not appear in Device Manager. I also did search C:\Windows\System32 but the file do not show up in "Browse" (add-hardware section), only in Win Explorer.
Show I copy it over somewherE?

169428 2003-08-22 07:24:00 Suggest go on line to Canon web site and download latest driver for A70 using XP. Download also installation instructions. You may need to disconnect the camera USB connection to instal the software, shut down all running programmes especially anti virus, only have the camera on one USB hub (some cameras are very fussy).
Try your CD on another computer running XP and see if it starts the installation. As suggested you may have a ropey CD Drive, do all other CD's work OK?.Note I have had a new CD drive that worked OK except for one program, (which worked OK on other computers), finished up getting the drive replaced and program working 100%
Re removing old installation, check Programs, Control Panel Hardware, Cameras, Add/remove Programs, Device Manager (with USB cable connected check USB hub for power draw).Presume USB cable connections are not dirty or damaged.

169429 2003-08-22 13:50:00 The installation works fine with my win98se. And i just copied some files on my cd-rw so I guess CD drive must be ok? Canon A70 doesn't have any driver. Same problem when i try to add my fren's Canon G2. What am I doing wrong here? Both cable looks clean and normal too. amijinx (4450)
169430 2003-08-22 22:20:00 Since you had no problems until "the other day" this would suggest that something has gone wrong either with your hardware or with Win XP. Can you try another cable to use with your camera? Can you upload photos on your other computer? If so, then something has upset Win XP and a repair or reinstall may put you back on track. 169431 2003-08-23 00:57:00 Assume you have been onto
www.canon.com.nz
Customer Services, FAQ's etc
If your camera is still under guarantee get onto the local agent listed on the above web page
Sorry if I mislead you about drivers but usually from the camera makers site you can obtain the driver and download a copy of the manual
In the details for the driver you found does it say it has a MS approved digital signature?
