169771 2003-08-23 03:14:00 Hey Everyone

I have a laptop running XP Prof for mainly home and school (uni) use. I tried downloading the service pack three times to install now and I get 99% of the way through, then it says it can't find a certain file and recommends that I remove everything that I just installed and start again. The one time I felt brave and ignored that recommendation I had to restore XP from the boot up cd.

I have emailed the PC Company regarding this and they have said I can take the laptop in and get it installed but I have to pay :-(. Considering I have a 3 year diamond care warranty (bought it Sep 02) I thought that was pretty unfair.

I haven't tried using the service pack on the pc world magazine - has anyone had problems with this? Does NZ Microsoft have the cd that I can get with the latest version of the patch as well (preferably for free)?

Knowing how unsecure my laptop is at the moment (although I am running a firewall and antivirus program) I know I should get this fixed.

Anyone got any ideas, I know this is a horrible post :-( but all help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Haidee

169772 2003-08-23 03:31:00 Try the service pack on the PC World magazine. It should have all the files. Elephant (599)
