169634 2003-08-22 13:07:00 all i get with windows update site is......

Thank you for your interest in Windows Update

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the most out of your computer.

The latest version of Windows Update is available on computers that are running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 2000 (except Windows 2000 Datacenter Server), Windows XP, and the Windows Server 2003 family.

or esle when the site does work it fails to download the activeX. the office update works fine. btw OS is 98se with IE6.

I had the same problem (but it is ok now), but try again in the morning or a few hours latter.

169639 2003-08-22 13:40:00 waht would you know, MS update works 3 minits after i Flame Windows. :O sc0ut (2899)
169640 2003-08-22 13:48:00 Well Windows Updates is working the only reason why it isn't for you is because of something you've done to prohibit it.

Have a wee look at where a248.e.akamai.net goes. Chances are it is currently being set to go to 127.0.0.1 or 0.0.0.0 ;)

Guess what I've been
doing tonight.

169641 2003-08-22 20:12:00 I have had that problem for long time. The only way out of it for me was to turn my firewall and virus checking off then all works fine..

169642 2003-08-23 02:52:00 yep that addy was blocked but not the problem. unforunatly i'm not sure exactly what caused the problem. i run nortons internet uninstall and removed the update engine, then i ran the plugin cleaner and removed the acrobat6 and quicktime6.3 plugins. after all that it worked fine. tweak'e (174)
169643 2003-08-23 04:00:00 When that happens, just look at the URL in the Address bar.

It ends with.../en/thanks.asp

Delete the last "thanks" appendage and all is fine again.
