169899 2003-08-23 09:37:00 I am getting 50-100 sobig infected emails every day. Norton isolates the attachment, but the email still remains for display, I have to manually delete them one by one, which takes ages and I have to be careful not to delete off my "Real emails". I have zone alarm too. Any one got a suggestion to stop them appearing in my inbox in outlook express please? keohane@slingshot.co.nz (3723)
169900 2003-08-23 09:47:00 Hi there

Prevention can sometimes be better than cure, and I would suggest removing your email address as your username here! Keeping your private email address private (ie not publishing it on the web) is step one in reducing spam :D

Secondly, if you are gettingh them to your slingshot account, can you go to
www.slingshot.co.nz
and check your emails there. I guess you can delete the unwanted ones there too.

Thirdly, you could use a program like Mailwasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/) to bounce emails from the server.

I don't want to put the knock on me but so far I haven't received any sobig emails, and my Hotmail junk email address is suddenly VERY quiet too, for some reason.

Probably because with MS servers down or slowed from that worm, their address sales have slowed/stopped. Did you know somebody modified that worm to a "good" one. It downloads MS patches and runs them (may I exaggerate the speech marks).

169903 2003-08-23 13:04:00 You could try this utility (www.majorgeeks.com). I have not used it myself and cannot vouch for it however. Susan B (19)
169904 2003-08-23 13:52:00 Got the same problem. I use mailwasher, and click on the subject line. Then e-mail>mark all e-mails for deletion. Untick the subjects that are not the usual ones. Pheonix (280)

169906 2003-08-24 07:28:00 Thanks guys for your input. I have figured a way myself. I have set up a message rule that will delete any message off my server that contains the words "See the attached file for details" in the message body. These words are common to the majority of sobig infected emails. That way they don't even appear on my computer. keohane@slingshot.co.nz (3723)
169907 2003-08-24 10:00:00 I'd be wanting something that checks that better keohane. Not only viruses will have that message. -=JM=- (16)
