169724 2003-08-23 00:21:00 Hi,

I have a couple of cellphones from the US. I need to unlock them for use in NZ.
There is an outfit in the states that can do it over the net, but I need a
Ericsson T28 Service cable (not the data cable).

Can anyone help out on where to find one. The usual mobile phone dealers look at me like i have 3 heads!!!

169727 2003-08-23 05:49:00 1. I would not contact them. In the past I called them for a quote and its about $100-150hr per hour. Its sent to Chc, courier is extra I believe. You can always dial 777 from your mobile and ask them.

2. There is one seller under trademe in Auckland which does things for like $20 per job. His username is called "Dennis" or something. Do a trademe like "nokia" ...

3. The process is connect a panel onto the cellphone and press button thats it. There are ones which connect to the PC and unlock and ones which is a standalone unit *without PC*.

4. For the phone to be used in NZ it must support 900Hz. USA is 1900Hz. Is the phone a dual band or triband which support 900hz? If it is then it will work.

169729 2003-08-23 05:56:00 Probably easier to get someone to do it for you. Getting the cable can be more $$ - try ebay or trademe or some online store (abroad). Intl delivery .... then becomes quite $ for one job. nomad (3693)

I meant contact them to see if you can get one of those cables :)

The standard NZ version of the T28 is dual-band and won't work in the US - I suspect it may be the same for a US one being used in NZ :(

169732 2003-08-23 11:34:00 Thx for all the ideas.

The phones are triband (T68i's)
There is a outfit in usa which supplies cables ($18) and internet unlocking ($20).

I'll probably go with them if I can't source a local cable.

They will not provide the cable, they are used by technicians to troubleshoot or else its an option the customer needs to pay to connect it to a PC for customisation. Absolu .. no way.

So give that fella an email on trademe - he gave me a quote last time. I am just too lazy to reset my change simcard pin number. I have forgotten the code!! I have not changed simcards to date, so its still working :D
