170206 2003-08-25 00:15:00 Hi Team

After installing SystemWorks 2003 Pro I am receiving an error message "ccApp not responding" when logging off as administrator/user or when shutting down. Terminating ccApp allows shutdown or log-off to occur but after some delay.

I installed SW2003 after uninstalling NAV 2001 and Ghost 2001. I first used the uninstall process in Windows to remove both programs plus Live Update and Live Reg, then manually deleted all remaining Symantec directories or folders, followed by a manual search of the registry and deletion of all residual Symantec entries. I may have outsmarted myself there as I realise now that I didn't search for Norton or NAV. :(

However, this is only occurring on one machine (the slow Celeron 700 from my previous post) and my PIII 550 & PIII733 are apparently OK and I followed exactly the same manual delete process on all three.

The Windows 2000 installation is otherwise performing normally, and Systemworks also seems OK though I haven't plumbed its depths yet.

I can go back to an image pre-SystemWorks and do another run at the registry & then reinstall but I'd like to avoid that if I can.

I found nothing on this issue in the Symantec Knowledgebase, and nothing relevant turned up on Google either.

Here's hoping somebody else has met this before.

Cheers

170207 2003-08-25 00:25:00 considering the problems on your slow pc i would suspect a hardware or windows problem. check out the hardware then install 2k from scratch. hopefully you'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone. tweak'e (174)
170208 2003-08-25 00:27:00 Billy T,

ccApp is Symantec’s Common Client Application for Norton AntiVirus 2003, Norton Personal Firewall 2003, and Norton Internet Security 2003.
This task is, effectively, the "master" task in these products as its role is to call the different program features of the above products.

For some info see BT ->See #21 (www.bensbargains.net) and possibly Here (forums.techguy.org)

Cheers, Babe.

170209 2003-08-25 02:16:00 Thanks for the suggestions Babe, but I'd already been there and a few more places besides.

I have posted a question at Symantec so it will be interesting to see what they say.

Thanks for your advice tweak'e. I am reluctant to do a full reinstallation of W2K because of the work involved and I could probably avoid that anyway as I have a small library of image files that can take me back virtually to the virgin OS install.

It is up to speed OK now and I am really bemused by the apparent cure of setting all disks to auto in the BIOS because it was previously OK and I can't see how it could have got manual data in there without human assistance. Nobody here but me knows anything past the on/off switch, keyboard and mouse levels. I'm picking that it was a spontaneous reversion to PIO mode that was the true cause.

I'll update this when Symantec respond.

Cheers

That happened to me a while ago too, it was all changed to PIO mode only. It happened after I flashed the bios anyway, so I guess that was the cause.

About CCapp. When shutting down it does sometimes do that for me as well. Maybe you haven't closed all the other programs before you hit shutdown?

170211 2003-08-25 06:17:00 Nope, I'm a confirmed "shut 'em all down first" type, and only the normally runnng programs are left.

Hopefully Symantec will come back with some ideas. :|

Cheers

170212 2003-08-25 09:03:00 If you have a copy of jv16 regcleaner, that does a pretty neat job of classifying left over bit of registry Rod ger (316)
170213 2003-08-25 12:27:00 Yes I have, but I've never used it. Is it safe?

170214 2003-08-25 23:54:00 The opening part where you trace entries I've never had any problem with. Its amazing how many little bits of old programs can be left behind. The actual Registry cleaner part I usually do all the different sections in one ,and there is a backup so you can restore any entries that you want to.
I've used it for ages and only ever had a problem with a couple of entries for Nero.

170215 2003-08-26 00:39:00 I would not worry about the Not Responding part of ccApp, basically it's just that windows tried forcing a close on the program and ccApp told it no, to me it's a countermeasure of any virus activity, ccApp maybe designed to be the last thing that closes on your computer. On faster machines you don't usually notice that screen pop up but it's there, I've seen it briefly pop up. Kame (312)
