170620 2003-08-26 04:27:00 At the moment im on a network with about 5 computers (mostly 98) and we have 2 printers. All this runs fine on windows networking and lantastic. But recently i have found that my XP computer will only print from word or acrobat. I cant seem to print from any other application like IE, also noticed that when i look in Printers and Faxes there are apparently no printers or faxes listed, but when i tried to enter a new one it told me that it is already there, only prob is i cant see it.

Wasnt too worried about it but today my bosses WinXp Laptop is doing the same thing and you cant see any the the printers in control panel.

Anyone got any ideas on what this is??

170624 2003-08-27 23:58:00 Try going to the manufacturers website and downloading an executable driver update.

Ones like HP dont require you (Usually) to go into the Control Panel and manually select your printer and update the driver.

A friend of mine had this problem with Win98, and solved it by downloading a driver from the manufacturers website and installing it, because it didnt require him to manually select the printer (Mainly because it wasnt showing up in the Control Panel).

Give it a shot and get back :-)

Cheers

170625 2003-08-28 04:10:00 That fact that it has worked indicates that the drivers don't need to be replaced. (Unless this has happened (immediately) after installing an XP service Pack or other patch. :D).

Printers seem to need "reinstalling" from time to time. I think you have tried this, but it must make it harder if it says the printer "is" there. Is this an Administrator thing which you are trying to do without that privilege?

170626 2003-08-28 22:18:00 um not sure i gave myself full rights so i can do anything, but today i logged into one of the other XP computers that you still can see the printers from. On the other computer i could see the printers my thru the network looking at his computer i couldnt see the printers on his computer, if that makes sense.

If nothing else it might be time for a reinstall after i finish this next project.

170627 2003-08-29 00:29:00 Try this:

Go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services and see whether "Pint spooler" start up type is set to 'automatic'.

Reboot system.

good luck
