170485 2003-08-25 11:50:00 Hi all,

I have too many contacts using msn6. Many of these people I have no contact with whatsoever. I do have them blocked but I cant seem to delete them so they are not there at all.

I have tried 'right click' and 'delete' but when I re open next day they are back. I have upgraded recently to msn 6 by totally deleting previous version and reinstalling new thinking that I could select only those I want when I reinstall but msn6 upgrade migrated all the users.

I am sure that there must be an easy way but cant find it.

thanks

Hi sam m,

Open Messenger6,

Contacts,

Manage contacts, and 1st on the list is DELETE CONTACT!

When list comes down,Highlite the ones you want rid of!

Easy as that,

Cheers,Kiwitas,;-)

Just to clarify why MSN migrated your contact list is because the contact details are actually stored on Microsoft's servers remotely. Removing/reinstalling MSN locally won't affect your contact list at all.

170488 2003-08-25 20:09:00 Well I'll be...............
I am sure that I had tried that Kiwitas last time. I would also 'right click' and delete individually and yet they would reappear. It looks like it has worked now. Thank You.

Rod J, does that mean if I were to uninstal/reinstal msn again that all the contacts (including the recently deleted) would reappear. If so is there any way to permantly delete these contacts on the server? I searched their support site and it said something along the lines that I cant delete a contact if they have 'me' on their 'allow' list.

thanks for that info anyways

If you delete the contacts they should be deleted permanently, so they would not reappear after reinstalling MSN. Yes, I see your point about them having you on their 'allow' list. Apparently the solution in that case is to 'block' the contact. This is a quote from the online MSN help:

Notes

You cannot delete a person from your Allow List if that person has you on their Allow List. The solution is to block the person. This prevents them from seeing your online status and contacting you in Messenger.

Anyone on your contact list who is blocked when you delete them will remain blocked.

Even if someone is not on your contact list or on your Allow List, they can still contact you unless you block them. If you want to keep everyone who is not on your lists from contacting you, move All others from your Allow List to your Block List.
