| 170342 | 2003-08-25 05:31:00 | A friend of mine owns a Sony DCRTRV340 (Digital 8) video camera. However, recently a tape started making some odd noises, so he took it out. Now that tape doesn't work (at all), and another tape plays with some grey lines through the image, and distorted audio. What should he do about it, and what are the possible causes? He bought it in Australia, but it had a Nz/Aus warranty (from Harvey Norman). He was going to take it in to the Harvey Norman store here, and see what they say. Any ideas? |

| 170345 | 2003-08-25 21:10:00 | The nearest Sony Style shop I know of is 400km away. My friend is going to contact Sony about it, but I'm just trying to figure out what the damage could be - whether it's a scratched camera head, misaligned head, or something as minor as that it just needs cleaning. |

So if the nearest Sony Style for u was 400km u must be the same distance From Auck to Taranaki/New Plymouth. :D > My friend is going to contact Sony about it, but I'm > just trying to figure out what the damage could be - > whether it's a scratched camera head, misaligned > head, or something as minor as that it just needs > cleaning. If u have the guts u could try opening it up and playing around and looking for any loose parts that may be rollin inside |

| 170347 | 2003-08-27 21:10:00 | He bought his camera in Aus, but it's still under a warranty, so I don't think he wants to try to fix it himself, in case he causes more damage than good. I haven't offered to help as I have no experience whatsoever in repairing video cameras. | somebody (208) | ||

That 1st tape may of jammed or twisted and gunked up the heads, best(cheapest and easiest) thing to do is buy a suitable head cleaning tape and try that. Definitely don't take the cam to bits, they can be a nightmare to reassemble and it will void any warranty. Rick |
