| 170327 | 2003-08-25 05:18:00 | i'm just wondering about telecom's charges...as i feel its abit of a major rip-off... i'm deaf, and all i need a line for is to connect to the internet, nothing more, dont even make any calls...and i'm paying $45 a month for the line...with another $25 for the internet... i really am pissed with this......and this is my idea of what they could do... chop the land charges to $20 monthly, and leaving the ablity to use the line to make calls but charge for every call, local or national or international...like $1 to call local, but just pay $1 nothing more, and when its national, use normal rates they have these days, but add $2....and for international same thing use normal rates but add $3 or something......and for every internet connection 50c or something... coz i beleive the landline is $45 because of the free local calling.... but i dont need local calling...well apart from connecting to the internet.. and i know some people are complaining about telecom's high prices for adsl, they shouldnt charge for landline and adsl fee..they should like combine them...if its $45 for landline and another $30 for adsl fee..then they should combine them as $50-60 for both (and the fees mentioned above $1 local etc...halve those)....then i am sure more people will go with adsl.......and more people will get individual lines for internet...and all this comes to..more money... i know i am dreaming and rambling on but i wish telecom werent such greedy pigs... what do u all think? |

Calls longer than two hours will be charged at an additional 20¢ including GST for each two hour period or part thereof. HomeLine Economy offers the best value if you make fewer than sixteen local calls a week (around two local calls a day). Check it out here (www.telecom.co.nz). |

Users should consider the total number of calls they make when considering Homeline Economy. You will have to do the math yourself. |

| 170333 | 2003-08-25 06:20:00 | if i connect to net 3x a day then thats 60c a day and tahts $180 for the month....so it basically gonna come to same as normal landline fee | csinclair83 (200) | ||
| 170334 | 2003-08-25 06:34:00 | You can't have your cake and eat it then. :-) Not sure what you are complaining about though. Just because you don't use your telephone line for voice calls doesn't mean you aren't using the lines. If you are on the internet a lot you are using the lines far more than someone without internet access who just uses the phone a couple of times a day like my parents and a lot of other people do. In that respect you are getting far more for your money's worth with what you are doing now than they are. |

| 170335 | 2003-08-25 06:38:00 | Yet another reason why Telecom introduced the 0867 number for the ISP and told them they HAD to use them. Previously with an 0800 ISP number you could have the Homeline economy option and still be able to connect to the internet without having to pay for each time you connected and then got disconnected. Then telecom came up with 0867 which meant it was no longer economical to use the Homeline option and connect to the internet. This is just more evidence of how telecom love to screw over people with limited finances. I know this for a fact because I was on the homline economy before the 0867 came into effect but after getting a bill of $98.00 after the 0867 was put in place I had to drop the homline economy and return to the normal one. Telecom also failed to mention that I would end up paying to connect to the net when previously it had been free. |

For like 10$ or so bucks more you can have 500MB full speed JS. In fact if spend phoneline + $55 u can get Telecom's Jetline package and its fullspeed JS 500MB. The world accepts 256k is a minimum speed at flatrate. NZ Telecom does not. Its a luxury. Heck, even 128k (half the speed) is semi considered as a luxury product of 5GB. Fortunately ISPs are able to offer 10GB and more GB flavours.. The only reason Telecom is not pulling the plug on its 128k is it will loose so many customers. NZ has a 128k standard, other developed nations has 256k and 512k flatrates. Singapore has them as $55 and $70SG I think. Don't even talk about 512k.. |
