1345471 2013-06-11 23:19:00 Is there a Bluetooth dongle that works with Win7 ? (for my desktop PC)

Last year I tried two bluetooth dongles but neither works with Win7 and yes I did update the drivers, etc.
The first one I tried was my fault as it was clearly marked "XP/Vista" and not Win7, but the other one
was supposed to be Win7 compatible. I just did a search on Pricespy and checked several dongles but
cannot see any that are for Win7.

Thanks.

1345472 2013-06-11 23:39:00 Go to the manufacturer's site if you know the brand/model. If its Win7 compat, the drivers maybe there. Win7 may also have drivers. Just because pricespy doesnt say anything about Win7, it doesnt mean it wont work Speedy Gonzales (78)

Of course - I have done that but cannot find anything so am wondering if anyone on PF1
has used one that actually works with Win7. As I stated, I did buy one that was marked Win7 but it does not work.

1345475 2013-06-12 02:09:00 When you say it updated the drivers did it install them OK or were there errors ?

Windows should automatically install them. If the drivers did install OK, you have to actually tell windows to connect to the booth device - you go to the Icon try, click on the Bluetooth Icon, then in the window click Add Device.

They should work OK, Mine I have here was out even before Vista, and it works good with W7.

Thanks for that. I will try to get the dongle that I bought last year to work but if no go then I will order the one in your link.

Wainuitech, IIRC there were no errors and everything installed correctly but it simply did not work. I tried quite a few times over several days to get it to work but gave up in the end. I did follow the procedure as you have given. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I can second that dongle - works sweet plug and play in Win7.

It arrived today but I cannot get it to work. :(

The encolsed mini CD was for XP only so I plugged it in a USB port and everything installed quickly, without errors.

When I click on the System Tray BT icon and select Send or Receive a File, the pop up box is dead - it will not allow me to add a file or to do anything else (exept "Cancel" exits the pop up window).

I have checked my Android phone and it sends JPEG pics to my ASUS netbook quickly, no problems.

What to do now? I have not rebooted the PC as too much is displayed and running so I would rather not boot uless necessary.

1345480 2013-06-22 06:23:00 Sounds like its working -- On every BT device I have connected, once the Dongle is installed, you then go to the device you want to connect to, make sure its discoverable. ( very important)

The following is connecting my phone to a W7 PC:

On the Bluetooth icon on the computer, tell it to add a device ( top option as in this picture) :

5074

It will then scan for the device(s) - may take a few minutes, once found it will show any devices:

5075

Click the device, then next, you will get a code -

5076

The code window opens on the device, you enter in the code provided, then its connected.

THEN and only then can you send the device a file. If you dont connect it the PC has'nt got a clue as to where its meant to be sending a file, THATS why the pop up box wont work.
