1320986 2013-01-01 18:25:00 Anyone have any comments about the use of arch supports?
Do they help?
If they do, any information about types and prices?

1320987 2013-01-01 18:35:00 Sounds like they are called "Orthotic" could get cheap ones from the chemist, made to prescription cost about $500, could cure "runners knee", I follow a lot of pedestrians who need them, as I notice their shoe is warn down on one side and they are almost walking on the side of their foot instead of the bottom of their foot. 1320988 2013-01-01 20:25:00 Orthotic supports are available at specialist sports shoe shops and also at chemists. They work really well in my experience especially if you are on your feet a lot on a hard floor or road surface. If you suffer from a condition requiring perscription supports fitted as Frank said they could be rather expensive but the ones I used were quite reasonably priced and I would reccommend them. 1320990 2013-01-01 21:04:00 My 91 year old mother has foot drop which means she cannot walk well without orthotics, I guess because it is a long term problem and because of her age she gets most of the help and equipment for free.

1320991 2013-01-01 23:45:00 I was quoted between $500 and $700 for some orthotic insoles. Went and got some of the Scholl Ortho Heal inserts and have no problems.

1320992 2013-01-02 01:31:00 All depends on your problem.

I had trouble for quite a long time, Dr didn't know. Ended up going to a foot doctor.
He told me I have very flexible feet......er....right....
He suggested these things, at some horrendous price.
I made him sign a waiver, so I could return them and get a refund if it didn't help.

Just as well I did.
It didn't, went back to the doc, she sent me for an xray and that's when I discovered I had arthritis in there as well.

1320993 2013-01-02 04:11:00 Thanks for these replies, they are very helpful. I did Google for info but mostly I got ads and who trusts them. tut (12033)
1320994 2013-01-02 09:13:00 I have found that some of the over the counter orthotics will not fit too well in steelcap boots. Found this out a few months ago and found it was quite uncomfortable. Took the insoles out and no problem. Also when I bought my new steelcap boots, it was a job to find a pair that would fit the insole and my feet. Ended up having to get size 13 boots. QW. (15883)
