1320764 2012-12-31 02:26:00 So, with 2013 fast approaching, time to look back on your OS usage.
What OS's were you using at the start of the year, and what are you using now? If any are different, why did you make the switch?

Personally, I was using Windows XP on my family pc at the start of the year. Now using Widnows 7 and ubuntu, about to give moonos a go.

1320765 2012-12-31 03:18:00 Thought I'd pluck up courage and upgrade from WFWG to Win95 in the new year.......... Terry Porritt (14)

1320767 2012-12-31 03:31:00 I was using XP since around 2002 and I'm still using it 10 years later! And I will likely still be using it as my primary OS next year. Apart from being a requirement for DirectX 10 games, Windows 7 is a bit pointless to me, and Windows 8 is just GUI stupidness if you're on a desktop and want to be sensible.

Metro looks lovely for a tablet, but wait until it gets a virus! Then the whole thing will fall down like a sandcastle....

Linux is making good headway in my books for just about anything that isn't gaming, so when XP support is finally killed off and it becomes full of security holes, I'll probably switch to Linux primarily (actually already using it much more than Windows on two of my machines) and keep a later copy of Windows for gaming.

Hopefully more game devs will start to follow Valve and jump on the Linux bandwagon too!

Have also been using Windows Vista all through the year on another PC.

1320769 2012-12-31 03:40:00 Windows 7 all year. Will be going to 8 before the end of January. icow (15313)
1320770 2012-12-31 04:00:00 Think 2013 will be my last year on a PC. Hate Outlook 2010 as compared to mail on the iPad.
Should have been big and brave and made the switch to Apple earlier this year when upgraded.

1320771 2012-12-31 04:21:00 Been on Windows 7 all year.

It has a few great features that I really like.
The breadcrumbs folder trail
The snap to window left or right (allows me to have two windows on my wide screen easily)

I can't see any point for me in going to 8, as I have a desktop.

I'd like to see voice recognition OS commands in 9
(unless it has already been done)

1320772 2012-12-31 04:53:00 I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my desktop and Windows 8 on my laptop. Bobh (5192)
1320773 2012-12-31 04:59:00 Win7 from start of the 2012 year (since 2010). Won't get Win8 unless I have a new PC. I don't think I would bother upgrading just the OS this time round .. Nomad (952)
