170813 2003-08-27 00:23:00 For HTML, I hired a small book from the Waitakere Library in Auckland.

It looked like a Children's Picture-book from the cover, but was really good.

I also found WebMonkey to help (I figured I need to provide a URL seeing as I cant remember the name of the book sorry ;-)):

170814 2003-08-27 02:20:00 The best (and cheapest) way to learn Flash is to use the tutorials that come with the software (Help > Tutorials or Help > Lessons). They are actually pretty good and teach you the different tools, and basic animating.
I have a few Flash 5 books, but have to confess I haven't really looked at them. I find it easier to use the web to download tutorials.
FlashKit (http://www.flashkit.com/) is a good place to start.

I learnt html by doing some online tutorials, and also by looking at code from other peoples websites.
I would recommend having a look at HTML Goodies (http://www.htmlgoodies.com). They have some good beginner tutorials.

Good luck :)

170815 2003-08-27 05:19:00 I wouldn't try and focus on any particular application. From what I've heard the people doing the hiring/firing want people that have the ability to learn an application not to already know one.

eg. They're wanting people with design skills, but with the ability to do it in different applications.
