170715 2003-08-26 09:53:00 Hi Beetle,

Mars is clearly visible to the naked eye and as Terry mentioned it rises in the east. It is very bright at the moment because it is supposedly the closest it has been to the Earth for 50 000 years.

Mars is basically the brightest "star" in the sky at the moment and I have to admit that when I first saw it I was sure it was Jupiter as it was so big :8}

170721 2003-08-27 12:12:00 It will be closest it has ever been on the 29th - 30th of this month. PoWa (203)
170722 2003-08-27 12:13:00 whoops thats when it will be closest to the sun. PoWa (203)
170723 2003-08-27 12:38:00 So its gettin closer due to the gravitaional attraction of the sun rite? If so, then wont it eventually reach the earth or even the sun in a few billion years? But by then woudnt the Sun have finished combusting hydrogen, then wouldnt it start fission of helium and so the sun would implode and reform so and in doing so the planets would fly off in random directions due to the centripetal force exerted by the sun?

What i'm tryin to say is, does anyone know when Mars will be the closest to earth before everything goes BANG!
