170921 2003-08-27 06:23:00 OK, here we go........ !!

At RedHat there are a number of manuals available to download. I am looking at getting Graham L's recommended "Getting Started Guide" but, as with all the guides, there are a number of choices: PDF, RPM or HTML.Tarball.

I am not sure which one I should be getting -- can all of them be read from within Windows and/or Linux? If not, which are which?

170922 2003-08-27 06:40:00 Tarball's (.tar) can be read by some windows apps. If they're .tar.bz2 it could be a little more interesting..

RPM's are Redhat and/or Linux specific

Stick with HTML or PDF's which work across the board without a worry, PDF would be my advice :-)

170923 2003-08-27 07:38:00 Wouldn't you need a PDF reader?

I believe HTML will be the one that works across the board, but only if you've got a web browser.

PDF you may need Adobe Reader.

170924 2003-08-27 08:07:00 Hi Kame,

I think you will find that most linux distros have a PDF reader on the install disk so no problems with that format :) I would be more concerned whether the HTML.tarball was the option for the HTML text.

If so, untarring isn't the most straight forward thing to do ;)
