171191 2003-08-28 10:40:00 Trying to help a friend set up their PC for internet. Outlook express keeps saying it is not the default mail handler. Have looked under Tools/options/general. At bottom of window is Default message program. Then a line saying "This application is not the default mail handler." I click on button that says make this the default. When I close outlook express this changes back to "not the default handler" How do we get it to accept and stay as the default. PC is a HP Vectra with windows 98. Peter M (852)
171192 2003-08-28 11:15:00 i usually go to tools, internet options, click on the programs tab and for email click on Outlook xpress. solves my problem... dotcommander (4338)
171193 2003-08-28 12:17:00 dotcommander, Thanks but you are talking about Internet Explorer. I am trying to set it in Outlook express. Have also tried what you suggest and found that outlook express is not given as an option in the drop down menu for e-mail programme in Tools/internet options/programs. Maybe if someone can tell me how to get it into that drop down list it may solve the other problem? Peter M (852)
171194 2003-08-28 12:50:00 in internet explorer go to Tools, internet options, Prgams tab then u can customise wot programs u want to handle inter applications, *it works in Xp so i assume its the same on win 98* vk_dre (195)

171199 2003-08-30 09:23:00 Will this work for Win 98 though? It says for XP. Peter M (852)
171200 2003-08-30 21:39:00 It may not work for W98, try this.
Start/Run and type:

"C:\ProgramFiles\OutlookExpress\MSIMN.EXE"/REG.
