171389 2003-08-29 02:04:00 pc comp response on fixing or jobs done on my machine....

its in transit somewhere ... coming home.

“Removed 2 spyware components. Scanned for viruses - none. Tested HDD - passed. Tested RAM - passed, 71 loops. Repaired system files. Replaced motherboard as a precaution. Ran burnin test - passed 68 hours without fault.”

this is in the email they sent me, is this good? i coulda told them no virus's
but the spyware would be interested to see what it was.

and repaired system files ... would be windows or microsoft components? and what on earth is a loop?

and reasons for replaceing motherboard?

im going to email them for a little more info and will let you know if they reply again.

171390 2003-08-29 02:20:00 Looks good

A "loop" is a continuous test that when finished loops back and starts again, testing all the hardware functions.

System files would be Windows system files, i.e.the Operating System.

They must have had some degree of doubt to replace the motherboard, so all should be well now.

Well done.

"
Sorry but this is the only information I have be provided . As you are aware your system was serviced in Hamilton so I can’t just ask the technician who worked on it .

But I can try and give you some more information .

Sometimes if the motherboard is slightly damaged it can intermittently cause the machine to freeze . Perhaps they

Couldn’t fault the machine so decided to replace it “just in case”

As for the repairing system files . This is an automated process which gets run . Which replaces the corrupted windows system files .

A burn in test is an application which tests the stability of the system . Tests the memory etc . and runs little applications and graphics etc . you leave it running to make sure the pc doesn’t crash during this process . And if it does it will normally indicate what is wrong . Well it narrows it down . :) "

OK?

171393 2003-08-30 04:43:00 ok its back and up and running as of 10 mins ago..... most of my stuff is still here and ok. just the settings and display stuff altered = size etc all other stuff still intact, icons etc and also desktop wallpaper......

but it also has a few other added icons..... they put on im presuming.

ones XP and another is a burn in test thing .......... will it be ok to remove from desktop without disrupting any other things? i know it wont delete them but am very wary as to what i dod with this at moment.... as it is now out of warranty.........

only other complaint is ive got used to the work one and its faster and easier keyboard wise ..... poor beloved shipped all over the country and then comes home and mummy doesnt love me the same....lol

but i have noticed from what i remember its working faster or better any way ..... no jerkks in the mouse . thank goodness.

so at moment it seems fixed.

and if Godfather reads this.... was what they did something you expected? or ? or with all my gliches you hadnt given it any other thoughts.?
just wondering if what they did was correct treatment.

thanxs

oh and ill tell you if i have any further probs.

171397 2003-08-30 10:18:00 another thing i have noticed it never did before is made a sound (not modem) sound when first turned on now like its checking disks or cd? cant recall it ever doing it before, i wondering if it was suposed to all along as the new one( work computer) makes similar sounds to it as well (not quite pronounced as its under the desk while this one is on top of desk and in your face like)

please note i am not looking for problems as i beleive it should be fixed just trying to work out if i should have heard this all along and it was faulty from the start or not?

just wish i new what font settings and sizes i had set before as it looks funny now. lost my remember or ram ? LOL

171398 2003-08-30 10:29:00 Why don't you stop fretting and just enjoy the computer. If it was faulty in the first place and is fixed now you have nothing to worry about. Sounds like its been fully tested.
Forget about what might happen and Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy!
If you can that is LOL
