171220 2003-08-28 11:51:00 Hey..As you guys know i'm deaf...I attend church on sundays but lately have been getting really p*ssed off as i dont understand what people say etc..so i've come to decide that i'd need an interpreter to sign for me what everyone is saying, the pastor etc, but wont need to sign the songs as its usually up on the wall anyway via projector...
But...it costs $40 a hour...i only go at night anyway, and its 2 hours..so $80 every sunday night....
And i definately dont have that much money spare each week...so was wondering if fundraising would work, and any money raised would go into a separate account, and it pays for all interpreting expenses...

BUT...how does fundraising work? and what can i do, coz i know schools use prizes to lure people to pay....is there any other way...sausages sizzle would work but theres been like 6 in the last week around town so it getting kinda boring...
Would it even help at all??? And is there any legal issues i need to know about?

171221 2003-08-28 12:31:00 Shouldnt they be printng out leaflets of wots bein said? Personally i wouldnt use the money if i was in ur situation, i would ask them to at least hire an interpreter for the church so if others wit the same problem came along then they woudnt have to woty bout it. I dont think u should be payin for the interpreter. vk_dre (195)

171223 2003-08-28 12:35:00 they record them digitally on video and audio tapes..
if there was a possiblity of putting captions on videos at home like..they give it to me on cd and i watch and captions come as it can..or something...
they dont type out whats being said etc...but since they record visually and audios then its possible mmm...

i actually wonder what other deaf do if they go to church, none attend mine as far as i know...

171224 2003-08-28 12:38:00 U should ask them to do that then, because u have some very good ideas and these could be beneficial to many others. vk_dre (195)
171225 2003-08-28 12:41:00 u mean writing them out or captioning them? csinclair83 (200)
171226 2003-08-28 12:48:00 captioning, that would so be very useful for many others out there vk_dre (195)
171227 2003-08-28 12:52:00 how do u caption them anyway?

is there any way of "live captions" like its captioned as they speak i dunno...i know i probably thinking technically advanced and expensive...

171228 2003-08-28 12:55:00 Can you absolutely completely not hear at all? There is someone at tech with me who is hard of hearing and gets the lecturer to wear a microphone which links wirelessly to the guys hearing aid. -=JM=- (16)
