171754 2003-08-30 14:14:00 I formatted a partition of my harddisk and in doing so wiped all my documents and mp3s. This happened when I was trying to reinstall Win 2k on the first partition. Can anybody tell me if my information can be retrieved? If so how? Thanks. nw3mrgc1 (3436)

you could use finaldata basic off the PC World disk to restore the files.

R-Studio is VERY good (slow, but that's understandable due to the nature of its task) - I've found it to work better than Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro (for just a fraction of the price).

171758 2003-08-31 04:42:00 There are stacks of great Linux utilities available for this. At my last workplace a machine was formatted and then ghosted ready for transfer to another staff member when the former owner returned wanting some files off it.

Booted a linux box with the drive in it and still recovered a stack of information of it. Might be worth researching if it's that important to you.

171759 2003-09-06 22:19:00 Thanks a lot guys. I was looking for programs you suggested and accidentally fell on getdataback - a recovery programme. It worked really well, recovering 95% of formatted data. If any of you would like to know more let me know.

Thanks again.

Cheers
