| 172002 | 2003-08-31 10:26:00 | Just downloaded MusicMatch for linux, how do I install it??? I know it sounds like a dumb question but I'm new to Linux.... I double click on the file and it opens a text file. Dave |

| 172003 | 2003-08-31 10:39:00 | Does the file have a .rpm extension? If it doesn't then it is a bit harder for a newbie! Installs are done far easier with the Redhat Package Manager. Older versions of RH used to have a GUI version called gnoRPM but this seems to have gone! Only left with Add/remove programs from the CD or RH site. However it is best done from the command prompt anyway. Assuming you have a rpm file, log in as root and type: rpm -ivh MusicMatch* Depending on how the install has been written, you may have to add a launcher (shortcut) to your desktop. Right click and choose "add launcher". To locate where the executable has gone, try "whereis Musicmatch" Hope this helps? John (PS - if the file is not a RPM, then the first step is to try and find one - for RH9 if possible) |
